about us and dance.
get to know us
The Barbados Dance Council (BDC) was formed in 2001 by all the then certified teachers of Ballroom & Latin Dancing on the island in an effort to gain international recognition as well as to raise the standard of the art form through competition. As a direct result of forming this organization the BDC Barbados was able to gain membership with the World Dance Council (WDC). The WDC is the international body that governs world championships and other international Ballroom & Latin events around the world.
This meant that the BDC was now responsible for:

Putting in place of rules and guidelines for all locally held competition.

All local competitions would be held under the same conditions as those in other parts of the world.

Barbados dancers would be well prepared for world stage.

Grading and ranking of all local competitors.

Selecting of persons to represent Barbados at all international events.

Barbados Dance
Teachers Association
The Barbados Dance Teachers Association was formed in 1995 to provide interested persons, the opportunity, to become qualified as teachers of dance, in an effort to raise the quality of teaching offered on the island in Ballroom & Latin dancing. The year 2000 saw the certifying of our first group of teachers under the international society known as the (ISTD) or Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. This society is based in the United Kingdom. Along with promoting and facilitating the certification of Latin and Ballroom teachers, the BDTA also used this opportunity to put in place a medal testing system for Latin and Ballroom students.
